"I Love America" Hat

This is my Patriotic hat. It can be made to fit any size head. I crocheted two for my young grandsons, . . . they loved them!

Hat:
Materials: about 3 oz. Worsted Weight Yarn in Red, White and Blue; size G hook

Instructions: Measure around head and make a chain a little smaller because the hat will stretch.

With Blue yarn, chain 50 (or the size needed to go around the head)

Row 1: Dc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in each chain across. Chain 3, Turn.

Rows 2 - 4: Dc in each dc across. At end of Row 4, drop Blue and draw up Red in last dc, ch 3, turn.

Rows 5 - 8: Dc in each dc across to end of row. At end of Row 8, drop Red and draw up White in last dc, ch 3, turn.

Rows 9 - 35: Continue alternating rows in this manner, ending each row with ch 3, turn. At end of Row 35 (or desired height), end off, leaving about 12" length for sewing hat together.

Using the 12" length, sew sides together through all 4 loops. At top of hat, stitch around and pull through tightly to gather. End off, weaving in ends.

FOR THE FLAG:
Small amount of red, white and blue worsted weight yarn; size "e" hook.
Note: Carry along and crocheting over the color just dropped.

Row 1: With red, chain 10. In the last ch, drop red and draw thru white.

Row 2: With white, ch 1, turn. Carrying red, sc in each chain across. In the end chain, drop white and draw thru red.

Row 3: With red, ch 1, turn. Carrying white, sc in each sc across. In the end sc, drop red and thru white.

Row 4: With white, ch 1, turn. Carrying red, sc in next 5 sc. In the end sc, drop red, draw thru blue.

Row 5: With blue, ch 1, turn. Carrying white, sc in next 5 sc. Drop blue, pick up red from last row, sc in next 5 sc across.

Row 6: With white, ch 1, turn, sc in next 5 scs. Drop white, pick up blue, sc in next 5 sc across.

Row 7: With blue, ch 1. turn, sc in next 5 scs. Drop blue, pick up red, sc in next 5 sc. Finish off.
